Shanklin Theatre
Isleofwight
Housed within the former Institute and local council building, the Shanklin Theatre has a rich cultural history. What makes this venue so charming is how it has managed to retain its character from its historical background. When it formally opened in 1934 it soon became a hub for entertainment during the wartime, being used for theatre shows and for dancing.
During its post-war life it has been the home to many local amateur dramatic groups, and to this day it plays host to events all year-round. Today you can catch anything from theatre shows to musicals, from pantomimes to local festivals at this historic venue. Be sure to also visit the recently renovated basement bar, which opens an hour before shows start and during intervals. Follow the link below for a guide to what’s on in the coming months.
