The Needles Landmark Attraction
Isle of Wight
At a glance
The Needles Landmark Attraction sits at Alum Bay New Road, on the western coast of the Isle of Wight, with a mix of family activities, coastal landmarks, food outlets and craft-focused attractions. The setting brings together Alum Bay’s layered coloured cliffs, the Needles Rocks and the Needles Lighthouse, creating a day out centred on the landscape as well as the entertainment.
The chairlift provides an elevated route between the attraction and the beach area, with views across Alum Bay and towards the Needles Rocks. Boat trips leave from the jetty for a closer look at the rocks and lighthouse, as well as the sand cliffs. These activities give the site two different ways to experience the coastline, from above and from the water.
Family entertainment includes an 11-hole Jurassic Adventure Golf course with dinosaur-themed features, water elements and storyboards. Other rides include a carousel, Dino Jeep Safari and teacups, offering a traditional fairground feel alongside the prehistoric theme. Seasonal events and street entertainment add further activity at selected times of year.
Craft and food-related attractions form another part of the visit. Alum Bay Glass features local glassmaking demonstrations and a shop, while the Sand Shop is associated with the traditional creation of layered coloured-sand designs in glass. The Isle of Wight Sweet Manufactory gives an insight into confectionery making, with demonstrations of sweet production. Cafés and restaurants provide places to eat and drink during a visit, while retail outlets include the glass, sand and sweet shops.
The attraction also includes a 4D cinema experience, a history shop, the Pier Head area and the Taste of the Wight food offer. Its combination of rides, demonstrations, shopping, refreshments and views suits family days out, mixed-age groups and visitors interested in the natural features of Alum Bay. Group and school visit information is available, and pre-paid parking is listed among the visitor facilities.
