Quay Arts
Isle of Wight
At a glance
Quay Arts is an arts centre and gallery venue at 15 Sea Street in central Newport, Isle of Wight. It occupies a former brewery building from the 19th century, giving the venue an industrial setting for visual art, performance and community activity.
The gallery programme provides space for exhibitions, with displays presented in dedicated gallery areas and, at times, within the café. The focus is on showing art and creative work, making Quay Arts suitable for visitors interested in exhibitions as well as for artists and makers taking part in the venue’s wider programme.
Alongside the galleries, Quay Arts includes a café bar, a shop and the Anthony Minghella Theatre. The café bar adds a relaxed food-and-drink setting to the building, while the shop provides another reason to browse beyond the exhibition spaces. The theatre hosts live performances, talks, screenings and other programmed events, creating a varied cultural setting rather than a gallery visit alone.
Courses, workshops and community activities form an important part of the venue’s character. These offer opportunities for participation as well as observation, with activities designed around creative learning and shared experiences. The programme can therefore suit art audiences, people attending performances, workshop participants and groups looking for an arts-based venue.
Quay Arts works well for a flexible Newport visit, whether the plan is to explore an exhibition, attend a ticketed event, spend time in the café bar or browse the shop. The combination of galleries, live arts and participatory activity gives the venue a changing cultural atmosphere within a distinctive town-centre building.
