Newport, Isle of Wight

Newport is the county town and centrally located. With a population of around 24,000, Newport is one of our largest towns. There are signs of Roman settlement in the area, and the Newport Roman Villa is now open to the public. The town is home to the Isle of Wight Council, the main cinema complex and the main bus station. It's the 'hub' for many local businesses. The River Medina runs all the way down to Newport, ending at the Quay. Quay Arts is worth a visit, exhibiting some fine island talent. Neighbouring Newport is the village of Carisbrooke, the home to Carisbrooke Castle.

One of the main reasons visitors are attracted to Newport is for its wide range of shopping... from the mainland branches you'd expect to find in any high street or retail park, to its more unique independent retailers and boutiques, there's plenty to keep you busy. There are also various restaurants, cafes, bars and pubs, all within walking distance of each other. Finally, you will find major supermarkets and petrol stations.
